2nd Half Flurry Lifts Rams over Angels

2nd Half Flurry Lifts Rams over Angels

MILWAUKEE, WI -- Through nearly an hour of play on Saturday afternoon, the North Central (MN) University and Mount Mary University women's soccer teams had battled to a scoreless tie.  That is when Mother Nature decided to play too.  Late summer storms halted the action for the next hour and when the teams finally re-took the field, it was the visiting Rams that came out re-juvenated, scoring two quick goals and making them hold up in a 2-0 win over the host Mount Mary.

The two teams jockeyed for position in the match's initial 45:00.  Goalkeepers Rachel Chant (NCU) and Ashley Leverenz (MMU) each collected 3 saves while pitching first half shutouts.

Thirteen scoreless minutes into the 2nd half lightning lit up the sky and the teams were forced to safer quarters for an unplanned "second halftime."  After a 60 minute delay and 10 minute warm up, the Rams came out on the attack.

Goals by Ram sophomores Karly Hoover and Shelby Norman within five minutes of each other after the weather delay put North Central on top for good.

For North Central, it was their first win of the season (1-2).  Mount Mary remains in search of their first victory (0-4).  For the Blue Angels, Saturday's match marked the team's 4th in the first eight days of the season.  The team will now get a chance to recover and regroup before heading to Eureka (IL) College on Saturday, November 15th in search of its first victory in 2013.
