Blue Angels fall to Finlandia

MILWAUKEE – The injury-depleted Mount Mary soccer team limped into its Saturday matinee against Finlandia and just couldn't find a scoring punch as the Lions shutout the host Blue Angels 4-0.

With three starters out with injuries and two more unavailable for the game, Mount Mary head coach Joe Shokatz was forced to shift around his collection of mostly first-year players. The Lions, who also only had the minimum number of players, took advantage by scoring two goals against a scrambling Mount Mary defense in the first half.

Finlandia would add another goal in the 62nd minute on a frantic attack that would find the back of the net, and the Lions lobbed one over outstretched senior goalkeeper Ashley Leverenz (Mauston, Wis.) to complete the scoring at 4-0.

Leverenz would finish with eight saves on the day while Mount Mary could muster only one shot on goal against the Lions' keeper.

The Blue Angels will take the better part of next week off before traveling to central Illinois to take on Lincoln Christian University for a 3 p.m. start time.
