MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary soccer team played its final game of its 2013 campaign Monday on a cold and windy MMU Soccer Field, falling to Alverno College 6-0.

Despite being outshot 19-0 in the first half, Mount Mary gave up just two goals by halftime. Yet the Inferno would spread out four more goals in the second half to put the game on ice. Alverno put up 43 shots in the game, 27 of which were on goal.

Senior Emily Barker (Oconomowoc, Wis.) stepped in at the forward position for Mount Mary in her first game of the season, and tallied the Blue Angels' lone shot of the game late in the second half.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Leverenz (Mauston, Wis.) tallied 17 saves on 20 shots on goal before collapsing with a left ankle injury at the 62-minute mark. Freshman Michelle Stepneiwski (Wautoma, Wis.) shifted from defender to goalkeeper to finish the game and recorded four saves while sacrificing three goals.

With the loss, Mount Mary finishes its season at 4-16 overall.

Seniors Leverenz and Vanessa Schellinger (West Bend, Wis.) wrapped up their collegiate careers Monday. Leverenz, in her first year at goalkeeper, saved 169 shots and tallied a save percentage of .738 overall. Schellenger scored her only goal of the season at home against Robert Morris-Lake County in a 5-2 defeat.
