Mount Mary University Soccer Team Travel to Michigan

The Mount Mary University Blue Angels soccer team are heading to Berrien Springs, Mich. to play Andrews University Sept. 23 at 4:30 pm.

This will be the fourth contest in the last three seasons between the Blue Angels and Cardinals, MMU leads the series 2-1. The first contest, in the 2012 season, went 4-1 in favor of Andrews University. Emily Ristow (Jr./Sheboygan, Wis.) scored the only goal for the Blue Angels in that first meeting, and has subsequently scored at least one goal in each meeting with Andrews University.

In the 2013 season, it was all Blue Angels; Ristow hit the game tying score with a breakaway goal in the first half, then Nina Her (Sr./Brown Deer, Wis.) smacked the leading goal off of a corner kick to end it 2-1 for MMU. The second match was a defensive struggle, but as per usual, Ristow sunk the lone goal of the contest, and the Navy Halos would hang on 1-0.

This year, the defense and offense seem to be getting on the same page simultaneously. In the first weekend of play, the Blue Angels were outscored 16-1 against some stiff competition, after a 5-1 victory over Eureka College, the Blue Angels started figuring out the defense. The following game, MMU would hold Crown College to just two goals, after allowing eight in their previous encounter with the Storm. The last game was a 3-0 victory for the Blue Angels over Lincoln Christian University, which marks the first shutout of the 2014 season for MMU, and the first in the emerging collegiate career of Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.).

The game against Andrews University is the first of two contest this season, the rematch is set for Oct. 26 at 2:00 pm on the beautiful Mount Mary Field. After the Sept. 23 contest, the Blue Angels will head to Hancock, Mich. to play Finlandia University on Sept. 27 at 10:00 am.
