MILWAUKEE – Cold and damp conditions were not helpful to Mount Mary University today at the Alverno Field. The Blue Angels (2-7-1) lost 9-1 to host Alverno College who notched their first win of the season making their record 1-8-1.
The Inferno continue to take the all-time series over MMU at an astonishing 11-0 clip. It was hard for the Blue Angels to get anything going in this one. Down a player and a retooled lineup, it seemed like an uphill climb throughout the entire first period.
Held shotless and down 4-0 in the first 45 minutes to Alverno, the objective for the Blue Angels was to get back in it. Marissa Rechlicz (Fr./West Allis, Wis.) had to step back into goal today in place of an ailing Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.). Rechlicz recorded 16 saves in the contest. And the defense along with Rechlicz turned it up in the last 45 minutes limiting the good shots for the Inferno.
It would not be until Nina Her (Sr./Brown Deer, Wis.) broke up a pass near midfield and booted the ball up the pitch to Ahley Lehnen (Fr./Sussex, Wis.), Lehnen directed it to Emily Ristow (Jr./Sheboygan, Wis.) who ripped it past the goalie for the first goal for MMU. The 6-1 score did not last too long, as a minute later the Inferno's Yessy Lopez (Jr./Milwaukee, Wis.) knocked in goal number seven for her team. The Blue Angels could not get back into the thick of things after that.
Lakeland College will be up next for MMU. The Blue Angels will play in Lakeland, Wis. to play the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference team. The match is Wednesday Oct. 8th with kickoff at 4:00 pm.
