Final Home Game For Seniors

The final Mount Mary Triangular is in sight. Friday Oct. 17th at 4:00 pm will be the begining of the matches. The teams included in the triangular, host Mount Mary University, Finlandia University and North Central University (Minn.). The feature of the evening is Senior Night to honor Sarah Wishau (Sr./Oak Creek, Wis.) and Katie Edwards (Sr./Mackinaw, Ill.).

It has been an up and down season for the Blue Angels volleyball squad this year. After getting derailed early on by injuries, the team has been trying to play catch up with timing and communication since then. Setter Payton Hintz (Fr./Almond, Wis.) was injured right before MMU traveled to Finlandia, where the Blue Angels lost 3-1. Since the match at Finlandia, the Blue Angels have not won a set as they scrambled to find replacement for the setter. Hintz has since recovered and is now back in the lineup, she currently leads the team with 297 assists.

Following the Finlandia matches, the Blue Angels will play North Central University (Minn.). The all-time series between the teams is 3-1 for MMU. The Rams have played a few common opponents this season, NCU split games with Northland University, and defeated Finlandia 3-1. The Blue Angels lost 3-1 to both Finlandia and Northland.

The focus of the night will be on the seniors for Mount Mary University. Senior Sarah Wishau just hit her 500th career kill this week, and leads her team with 141 kills. In a moment of thought for Wishau, she reflected on what she will miss most,

"I am going to miss all of the girls and all the friendships I have made. I will miss traveling all over the midwest and singing to 'Frozen' or 'Pitch Perfect' on the bus rides. Those moments will always be in my heart."

The seniors are proud to be a part of what makes Mount Mary University special, senior Katie Edwards "I will miss the players most. This volleyball team, both this year and last, was the greatest team chemistry that I ever got to experience and I hope it continues to be this way."

It will be a hard night for Blue Angels fans, as this is the last home volleyball match for the seniors. Fans will have a chance to see them in action a few more times however. After the triangular, the Blue Angels will head to Beloit College on Tuesday Oct. 21st with the match starting at 7:00 pm.
