Seniors Have A Big Hand In MMU Victory

MILWAUKEE – A fitting end to "Senior Day" at Mount Mary University, the Blue Angels defeated Andrews University 4-2. The game on Mount Mary Field is the third straight victory for MMU.

The last time these teams met, the Blue Angels jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, and finished the half at that mark, only to have the Cardinals take it away in the twilight of the second half. The game would go into OT at 2-2, and that is where it ended, as the Blue Angels could not even get a shot off in OT, but defended the ball to near perfection.

Today, MMU got things going in the first half with Emily Ristow (Jr./Sheboygan, Wis.) as she hit a goal at 30 minutes from a solid pass via Marissa Rechlicz (Fr./West Allis, Wis.). This was just the start to Ristow's day. Not only did she receive a personalized jersey for her terrific and record breaking career, but she finished senior day with her fourth four goal game in the last two weeks.

The second goal for Ristow came from fellow "senior" Nina Her (Sr./Brown Deer, Wis.) just five minutes into the second half. Ristow got two more goals from Rechlicz, on some amazing shots. One shot caused a collision between Ristow, a defender and the goalkeeper, but Ristow's accuracy was dead on as she slipped it by the attacking defense.

The Cardinals made a late effort to get back in after falling behind 4-0. As they tacked on two unassisted goals, one in the 76th minute, and the other with just five minutes to go. With the score at 4-2 MMU, the Blue Angels had to clamp down defensively to kill the clock and maintain the lead, and that is what they did.

Do not fret Blue Angels fans, following "Senior day" MMU will have one more home contest next Thursday. However, MMU will first head to Waukegan, Ill. to face off with Robert Morris-Lake County. The rematch is set for Tuesday Oct. 28th at 2:30 pm.
