Beavers Outshoot Blue Angels

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University soccer team lost 6-0 against visiting Blackburn College today at Mount Mary Field. The loss makes the Blue Angels 0-4 on the season, and moves the Beavers to 2-3.

A tough day for MMU, the Beavers took control of the game early. Four minutes into the opening period, Blackburn's Christin Miller took a hot pass from Meghan Sykora and knocked it in the goal to make it 1-0. The first of three goals for Miller, and the first of four in the half for Blackburn.

The Blue Angels defense did their best to slow down the attack from the Beavers, but an unrelenting 47 shots, 29 of which were on goal, was a lot to handle for Becky Onan (So./Grafton, Wis.). Last year's Association of Division III Independents Goalkeeper of the Year did her best to deter offense, but could only get in the way of 23 shots on goal.

Onan continues to impress as she has 63 saves on the year. Last season, Onan's 191 saves was good enough for seventh in the entire NCAA DIII. Onan is on pace to break her amazing finish from 2014.

Now the Blue Angels will have a very quick turnaround for their next game. Sun. Sept. 13th at 12:00 pm on the campus of Finlandia University will be where MMU takes on host Finlandia. In 2014, the Lions and Blue Angels split there two game series. The home teams in each contest took home the victory.
