Blue Angels Shutout By Lions

HANCOCK, Mich. – The Mount Mary University soccer team lost to Finlandia University 1-0. The loss at McAfee Field moves the Blue Angels to 0-5 and gives the Lions their first win of the season advancing them 1-4.

Leading the way offensively for the Blue Angels were the pair of freshmen Ashley Pfeifer (Fr./Elkhart Lake, Wis.) and Karina Salgado (Fr./Chicago, Ill.) with two shots on goal each.

A big boost from a day before when the Blue Angels got outshot 47-2, MMU held in with the attempts at 13-6 shots on goal in favor of the Lions. Becky Onan (So./Grafton, Wis.) did her best to slow down the offensive attack, saving 12 of 13 shots on goal.

The only goal of the night came at the 62 minute mark right off the foot of Robyn Peppey. The Blue Angels did their best to get back in it in the time remaining getting off three of their 10 shots in the last 28 minutes, but a few wide shots and a save by Erin Elsner kept the door closed.

Following the 1-0 loss, MMU will get ready for a big week. Playing three games within the next seven days, the first of which will be against Lakeland College 1-4 on Wed. Sept. 16. The matchup at the Lakeland Soccer Field begins at 5:00 pm.
