Tigers Takedown Blue Angels

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University soccer team lost 7-0 to the visiting Grace Bible College Tigers. The dark and cloudy day at Mount Mary Field saw the Blue Angels move to 0-7 on the season, while the Tigers are now sitting at 2-1-1 for the season.

The Tigers came out firing today. In the first half, Grace Bible had 20 shots, 11 of which were on goal. That never ending assault was slowed down in the first as Becky Onan (So./Grafton, Wis.) saved all but two of her opportunities. In contrast, the Blue Angels got off one shot in the first 45 minutes.

The shots in the first half were not all easy as coach Jon Gulrajani points out, "I was very happy with our organization in the first half, we defended well and limited their chances to 20 yards and out."

In the second half, the Blue Angels came out with a different look. Coach Gulrajani explains, "We had to make some changes due to injury in the second half and that caused us to chase the game a little. Credit Grace Bible they were very strong on the ball and their athleticism caused us problems in the second half."

Marissa Rechlicz (So./West Allis, Wis.) took goal to begin the frame. The Tigers continued to take 21 shots, 14 would be on goal, and five slipped past the reach of Rechlicz.

Onan and Karina Salgado (Fr./Chicago, Ill.) led the offense with two shots and one shot on goal each.

"Our results take a bit away from how much we have improved this year. We are making strides and competing hard for 90 minutes, the team keeps pushing forward regardless of the circumstances." Coach Gulrajani continues, "…this next stretch of games will be important to provide some confidence with our group moving forward."

The Blue Angels will head to Andrews University Sun. Sept 20. Kickoff in Berrien Springs, Mich. Will take place at 1:00 pm Central Time.
