Cardinals Win In Michigan

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. – The Mount Mary University soccer team lost to Andrews University 3-2. That marks the first win of the season for the Cardinals, and moves the Blue Angels to 0-8.

A tough game for the Blue Angels as they attempted to change the lineup a bit to generate a bit of offense. Becky Onan (So./Grafton, Wis.) who led NCAA DIII in saves with 97, was taken out of the goal to play the field. The change came last Friday for MMU at half time. It was a birth by fire for Marissa Rechlicz (So./West Allis, Wis.) who saved nine, but had five sneak past in her 45 minutes in the goal. The change got Onan her first shots of the season, and opened up the field a bit offensively.

The change continued today and it generated the first goals in five games. Karina Salgado (Fr./Chicago, Ill) setup Onan for the first goal of the game, and the first goal of the season for the sophomore. Onan subsequently returned the favor getting Salgado open for Salgado's first goal of the season.

It would not be enough as the Cardinals put up three goals against the Blue Angels defense.

"I'm really pleased with our efforts, we battled through a bit of adversity." Coach Jon Gulrajani was still pleased with his team, "We did a better job offensively, finishing our chances. Overall we took a nice step forward."

The Blue Angels now will host four games straight at Mount Mary Field. The first of which against Lincoln Christian University on Tues. Sept. 22. Kickoff is at 4:00 pm.
