Red Lions Top Blue Angels

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University soccer team lost to visiting Lincoln Christian 11-1. The loss at Mount Mary Field makes the Blue Angels 0-9 on the year, and moves the Red Lions to 4-3.

Coming out in the first half, the Blue Angels did their best to limit the possessions for the Red Lions. Some good shifting on defense and a solid offensive attack, gave the Blue Angels a couple opportunities. 11 shots for MMU in the first 45 minutes, seven on goal.

The Red Lions took a 3-0 lead into half after firing 10 shots on goal and a first half hat trick by Abigail Crockett.

Finding themselves down 4-0, Ashley Pfeifer (Fr./Elkhart Lake, Wis.) slipped through the defense and riffled a shot past the goalkeeper to give the Blue Angels their first goal of the game and Pfeifer's third goal on the season.

After that, the Red Lions continued to fire away at Marissa Rechlicz (So./West Allis, Wis.) who saved 11 of the 22 shots on goal. Finishing an amazing game, Crockett broke free five more times in half number two to finish the game with eight goals by herself.

The Blue Angels picked up their offensive game, and it has shown with the recent success on that end of the field. Karina Salgado (Fr./Chicago, Ill.) led the team with 10 shots, nine of those on goal. Pfeifer was right behind with 5 shots on goal, with one slipping past.

Following today's game, the Blue Angels will prepare for former Association of Division III Independent rivals Maranatha Baptist University. The Sabercats come to rekindle the rivalry Fri. Sept. 25 beginning at 4:30 pm.
