Red Lions Outshoot Blue Angels

LINCOLN, Ill. – The Mount Mary University soccer team lost today against host Lincoln Christian University with a final score of 14-2. The loss moves the Blue Angels to 0-13 on the year, and gives the Re Lions a record of 6-5.

It is the second straight win for the Red Lions, and the second straight win over the Blue Angels. The offense began in the first half when Britney Flora scored the game's first goal making it 1-0. LCU continued the offensive attack as Abigail Crockett slipped past the defense and dropped a setup from Jayla Middleton that went beyond the reach of Becky Onan (So./Grafton, Wis.) making it 2-0.

Ashlley Pfeifer (Fr./Elkhart Lake, Wis.) got the Blue Angels first goal off a great pass from Karina Salgado (Fr./Chicago, Ill.) at the 30:54 mark making it 4-1. After that the Red Lions tacked on and went into halftime with a 8-1 lead.

In the second half Lincoln Christian continued to attack the goal finishing with 63 total shots and 36 on goal. Onan did her best, and came away with 22 saves as she adds to her NCAA DIII lead.

LCU's Abigail Crockett led the game with seven goals, and is still on top of the NAIA in goals scored this season with 42.

Offensively for the Blue Angels Ashley Pfeifer led the way with two goals out of her four shots on goal. The pair of scores puts the freshman in second place in the Great South Athletic Conference in goals scored.

Following today's contest, the Blue Angels will prepare to play Robert Morris-Lake County on Thur. Oct. 15. The game will take place at Mount Mary Field as the last contest between the schools was postponed. The game will begin at 3:30 pm.
