Rams Blank Blue Angels

MINNEAPOLIS – The Mount Mary University soccer team lost today against host North Central University 10-0. The loss makes the Blue Angels 1-13 on the season and improves the Rams season record to 8-8-1.

Undermanned again, the Blue Angels had another slow start against their opponent. The Rams came out firing and putting as much pressure as possible on early. With just eight players on the pitch for the Blue Angels, openings began to emerge quickly and the Rams took the lead at 7:49 as Dakotah Sparmann knocked in a goal.

The Rams outshot the Blue Angels 28-0 in the first half, with those shots, 21 were on goal and seven got past Becky Onan (So./Grafton, Wis.).

Coming back from half time, the Blue Angels clamped down a bit defenseively only allowing seven shots. While three more found the net, the Rams would finish the game with a 10-0 lead and the all-time series lead at 4-0.

Three Rams scored a pair of goals each; Dakotah Sparmann, Rachel Chant and Linnea Madison. Breanna Ritter finished the night with a game high two assists.

Defensively Onan led the game with 17 saves and has a good chance to take the NCAA DIII lead in that category.

The Blue Angels will have a chance to get things going before their regular season finale against Alverno. Tomorrow MMU will head to St Bonifacius to have a rematch against Crown College. The game is set for Sat. Oct. 24 with a 7:00 pm kickoff.
