Blue Angels Soccer Earns Multiple Awards

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – This morning, the Association of Division III Independents announced the roster of the 2016 All-Independent Women's Soccer teams. After spending the 2015-16 season in the Great South Athletic Conference, Mount Mary University rejoin of the AD3I prompted six Blue Angels being honored on the AD3I All-Independent teams.

This record breaking season for the Blue Angels began with the biggest recruiting class in the program's history. Adding much needed roster depth and experience, the Blue Angels new comers had an immediate impact on the team.

"Our team is so proud of the accomplishments of our six all-conference players," said Mount Mary Head Soccer Coach Jon Gulrajani. "The improvement in competitiveness this season helps put us in the place to receive these kind of awards."

Allison Klotz (Fr./Port Washington, Wis.) made the first team roster for the AD3I. Klotz was one of the pillars of the Blue Angels offense this season with a team leading 13 goals and 30 points. Her offense led her to finish second in the AD3I in goals and third in points.

Protecting the Blue Angels net all season long, freshman Hannah Rose (Jeromesville, Ohio) earned a spot on the first team also. Rose and her defense pitched four shutouts on the year. Logging 1300 minutes in the goal, Rose finished her first collegiate season with an 8-6 record and the lowest goals against average in school history (1.87).

Completed the forward attack, Kaeli Stellings (Fr./Beloit, Wis.) made the AD3I second team this season after scoring 11 goals, 4 game winning goals, three assists for a total of 25 points on the season. In her inaugural season as a Blue Angel, Stellings finished sixth in the AD3I in goals, seventh in points scored and tied for first in game winning goals.

In her second season at MMU Karina Salgado (So./Chicago, Ill.) made history as she becomes the first Blue Angel in program history to make an association/conference team in two different associations/conferences. Salgado finished second in the AD3I in assists with six and worked her way on to the second team this season.

In a big role change this season, Becky Onan (Jr./Grafton, Wis.) worked her way onto the third team for AD3I as she launched in four goals from her new position to midfield. Onan spent her first two seasons at MMU in goal, but in order to balance out the Blue Angels attack the junior made the move to the field. Onan energized her team with four goals and two assists.

Finishing up the award winners for MMU, Katy Groth (So./Racine, Wis.) earned a spot on the AD3I third team. Groth played in every game this season and added two assists to the team. It is the second straight season Groth has started as defender for the Blue Angels.

"This group really focused on improving every time they trained, played matches and provided great support to each other," added coach Gulrajani. "Those foundations are a direct reflection of these AD3I awards."
