2019 Mount Mary University Soccer Preview

2019 Mount Mary University Soccer Preview

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University soccer team opens their 2019 campaign this week. After an active offseason, the Blue Angels are looking to improve on their 1-14 record from 2018 with a bigger roster and added experience.

Head Coach John Baillie is now in his second season at the helm of the Blue Angels. While trying to deepen his roster and fight off the inconsistent weather, the success of the team did not reflect directly in the win column. However, the team continued to progress individually throughout the year while growing their team bond.

This season the Blue Angels begin the season with a full roster including a number of a new faces into the mix. This year, MMU returns eight student-athletes from last season. In addition, this year's team has five new Blue Angels to the roster.

After leading the American Collegiate Athletic Association in saves, Hannah Rose (Jeromesville, Ohio) returns for her senior season. Last year, the three-time varsity letter-winner saved a total of 228 shots on goal by the opponent. That performance helped Rose earn an Honorable Mention from the 2018 All-ACAA women's soccer team.

Halee Van de Boom (Jr./Saukville, Wis.) was also named as an Honorable Mention on last season's All-ACAA women's soccer team after her stellar first season on the pitch for the Blue Angels. Van de Boom was a consistent thorn in the oppositions side.

Along with their work on the field, seven Blue Angels made it to the All-ACAA academic team. Returning this season from the academic team is Alexa Ahlgrim (Sr./Inverness, Ill.), Kaylie Cook (Jr./Fairborn, Ohio) and Hannah Rose. (Rosters here)

The Blue Angels have expanded their schedule this season and are slated for 19 games this season. MMU will rekindle some longtime rivalries like Alverno and Wisconsin Lutheran, while also adding Martin Luther and Earlham. This season, the Blue Angels will look to keep their wins and strength of schedule up in order to qualify for the ACAA Conference Tournament in November. (Schedule here)

Check out the Blue Angels in their first match tonight on the Mount Mary University campus. The Blue Angels will open up the season against Crown starting at 3:30 today, Aug. 30. For more news and info, check out MtMaryAthletics.com.
