Quakers Corral Victory

RICHMOND, Ind. – Today on the campus of Earlham College, the Mount Mary University soccer team lost to their hosts 11-0. The Quakers (6-2) scored five goals in the opening half, then added six more against the Blue Angels (1-6) in the second half.

The Quakers opened up the game on the offensive. After the two teams traded position early, Earlham was able to work the ball down into their territory around the eight-minute mark. Grace Manning took the ball and moved down deep towards the right side endline. Following a quick cut back to center field, Manning stop with the defense slightly off balance and hit a 15-yard shot to take the early 1-0 lead.

Hannah Rose (Sr./Jeromesville, Ohio) started for the Blue Angels in goal today. In the first half alone, the leader in saves for the American Collegiate Athletic Association added 14 saves to her tally.

The attack on the MMU goal was consistent throughout the half, and at the 23-minute mark the Quakers added their second goal, this one from Emma Bisard. Nearly forty seconds after that goal, Bisard received a pass from teammate Erin Welsh, which Bisard knocked into the goal to move the lead to 3-0.

The Quakers added two more goals in the remainder of the half. Nicole Burkett scored the goals within a minute and half of each other starting near the 32-minute mark. After the pair of scores from Burkett, the Quakers enter the half with a 5-0 lead.

Six minutes into the second half, the Quakers added their sixth goal of the game. The Blue Angels continued to defend the goal. Rose added seven more saves in the half, but the Quakers continued to add to the score.

With 26 minutes remaining in the game, Earlham continued on the offensive and scored their seventh goal. Over the next four minutes, the Quakers added two more goals including Nicole Burkett's third goal of the contest.

Bisard added her third goal with 14 minutes left to go in the contest. Then with 89:41 into the game, the Quakers tacked on their 11th goal of the contest.

The Blue Angels will travel to Andrews University tomorrow for the second game of their road trip. The contest in Berrien Springs, Mich. is set for 3:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time. Check back to MtMaryAthletics.com for links and scores to the game.
