Cardinals Grab Late Victory

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. – Today at Cardinals Soccer Field, the Mount Mary University soccer team lost to host Andrews 1-0 on a late penalty kick by the Cardinals. The Blue Angels move to 1-7 on the season while AU is now 1-4.

In the close 90-minute battle, the two teams traded possession and shots evenly throughout the contest. The Blue Angels spaced their offense and their attack as they came from all angles in this one.

Alexa Ahlgrim (Sr./Inverness, Ill.) led the MMU offense in Sunday's contest. Ahlgrim blasted five of MMU's 10 team shots on goal.

Teammate Nyasia Hardy (Fr./Fort Wayne, Ind.) was also on the attack with Ahlgrim and the Blue Angels. Hardy was responsible for three of those shots on goal.

Senior Hannah Rose (Jeromesville, Ohio) continued her American Collegiate Athletic Association lead by tallying 15 saves on Sunday. The only shot to find the net was on a penalty kick in the second half. AU's Kristen Proctor delivered on the penalty shot at 63:40 to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead.

That lone penalty was the difference in the contest. The two teams controlled the ball evenly, the Cardinals had a slight edge in shots on goal with 17 to MMU's 10. MMU attempted three corner kicks, AU had an edge by taking nine against the Blue Angels.

After this afternoon's contest, MMU will return home for a pair of games at Blue Angels Soccer Field this weekend. Sat. Sept. 28 the Blue Angels will take on Grace Christian at 1:00 pm. Live stats and video will be available for the contest. Check out MtMaryAthletics.com for details, news and info.
