Warriors Win Weekend Showdown

MILWAUKEE -- Today at Blue Angels Soccer Field, the visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors defeated the Mount Mary University soccer team by a final score of 9-0. After the win for the Warriors, they move to 2-6 on the year while MMU moves to 1-9.

Five minutes into the game Warriors knocked in the first goal when Osiris Leon chipped a breakaway shot in the back of the net. After that the Blue Angels defense buckled down and held the opposition scoreless for over 20 minutes.

At the 28-minute mark the Warriors knocked in their second goal of the contest. Kendra Schumacher found Erika Yanke open inside their opposition's territory, after a quick move Yanke knocked the ball into the back of the net making the score 2-0.

The Blue Angels kept their opponent off the scoreboard for the next 13 minutes. With the half closing out, the Warriors found an opening in the MMU defense and were able to score the third goal of the frame. Moments later the Warriors would add their fourth and final goal of the half when Kayla Mitchell broke free from her defender and got a shot off.

In the second half, the Warriors continued to attack the Blue Angels defense. After WLC fired 20 shots on goal in the first half, they continued to pressure in the second with 20 shots on goal as well.

Hannah Rose was able to grab 15 saves in the second half, as the Warriors spaced out five goals in the final 45 minutes. After the contest, Rose totalled 30 saves.

Before play began this week, goalkeeper Hannah Rose (Sr./Jeromesville, Ohio) was second in NCAA DIII women's soccer in total saves this season at 126. (Official NCAA stats are recalculated weekly.)
