Blue Angels drop defensive battle at Lakeland

Plymouth, WI- The Mount Mary Blue Angel soccer team held tough for much of their match against Lakeland on Tuesday evening.  It was Mount Mary's second straight road match to begin the 2024 season and the Blue Angels showed marked improvement in the contest.  Unfortunately for MMU, the Muskies defeated the Blue Angels by a final score of 4-0.

For much of the first half, only a single goal separated the two sides.  Lakeland would take a 3-0 advantage into intermission, the Muskies attempted 17 shots on goal in the first half.  Brianna Brown was most impressive in net, recording 14 saves in the match's first half.

The second half proved to be even more of a defensive struggle.  Lakeland added one goal in the 87th minute for the only tally of the half. 

Brianna Brown had an outstanding night for MMU.  The Blue Angel goalkeeper saved 22 of Lakeland's 26 shots on goal to keep Mount Mary in the contest.

Mount Mary (0-2) will look to secure their first win of the season when they open their home schedule on Thursday, September, 5th.  The Rockford University Regents will come to Mount Mary soccer field for a match with a 4:30 start.  All live coverage of that match and Blue Angel Soccer can be found on www.mtmaryathletics.com
