Blue Angels and Blackburn play to a draw

Blue Angels and Blackburn play to a draw

Milwaukee, WI- The soccer teams of Mount Mary University and Blackburn College got together Sunday on a rainy day with less than ideal playing conditions.

Both teams played through the inclement weather, and the hard fought battle resulted in a goal for each team as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Lydia Omernik scored the only goal of the first half to stake Mount Mary to the halftime lead.  Micaela Gonzalez and Amanda Antonio were credited with assists on the Omernik goal.

The Blue Angels seemed primed to claim their second victory in three matches but Blackburn would rally for an equalizer with under three minutes to play in the match.  A hand ball call against MMU on a Blackburn free kick resulted in a penalty shot, which the Beavers would capitalize on to even the match.  The contest would then end in the 1-1 final.

Statistically, overall shots and shots on goal were nearly even for both sides.  Brianna Brown recorded eight saves on the contest in net for Mount Mary.

The Blue Angels (1-4-1) will be home again on Tuesday, September 24th.  MMU will host Maranatha Baptist, the match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm.  All live coverage can be found here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
