BELOIT, Wis. – The Mount Mary tennis team traveled down Interstate 43 to battle the Buccaneers of Beloit College Saturday morning. Despite some great play from the Blue Angels' underclassmen, Mount Mary came up just short, falling 7-2 to host Beloit.

Fresh off a heartbreaking defeat in Mount Mary's Monday afternoon home opener against Lakeland, the Blue Angels played some spirited tennis despite coming up on the short end of the scoreboard.

The doubles tandem of senior Briana Lock (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Andrea Monacelli (Sussex, Wis.) cruised to an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, but the Blue Angels faced a 2-1 deficit entering singles play.

The Bucs took control early in singles play, sweeping flight No. 1 6-0, 6-0 and scoring 6-0, 6-1 victories in both No. 3 and No. 5 singles play. Freshman Ana Mercado (Grafton, Wis.) battled hard, but fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Monacelli dropped a tight 6-3, 6-3 fight at No. 4.

The only singles victory came at No. 6 singles, where Krista Olson (Appleton, Wis.) handled Beloit's Allison Vance in 6-0, 6-0 sweeping fashion.

The Blue Angels will return to action Sunday at Marian, as they look to get back to the .500 mark overall.
