Blue Angels Comeback To Prevail Over Cougars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Mount Mary University starts off the season with a victory over Concordia University Chicago 6-3.

The Blue Angels begin the 2014-15 season with a big comeback win. The Cougars started off with back to back doubles victories, Ana Mercado (So./Grafton, Wis.) and Shauna Jacobs would drop the first match against the Cougars Emma Renteria (Jr./Maywood, Ill.) and Liz Steinhoff (Jr./Grayslake, Ill.) 6-8. The second match Samantha Panganiban (Sr./Glenview, Ill.) and Samantha Trejo (Sr./Lombard, Ill.) would overcome Andrea Monacelli (So./Sussex, Wis.) and Brooke Slamka (Jr./Racine, Wis.) by a score of 8-3. Mount Mary would then begin their climb back as Aurora Bostwick (Fr./Marquette, Mich.) and Courtney Wilwers (Fr./Marengo, Ill.) would be defeated by the Blue Angels Krista Olson (Jr./Appleton, Wis.) and Sydney Dahlstrom 3-8.

Mount Mary would continue the momentum to the singles match as Mercado would defeat Steinhoff (6-2, 6-2). Jacobs would win over Panganiban (7-5, 6-2). Monacelli overcame over Renteria. Olson was victorious over Trejo (6-3, 6-2).

Coach Tom Troast was pleased with the first step of the season for the Blue Angels, "Great start for the year. Young players really stepped up in tough conditions."

The Blue Angels will play their next dual match against Ripon College Sept. 5 beginning at 4 pm at the Nicolet Tennis Courts.
