Blue Angels Lose First Dual Match Against Visiting Inferno

Milwaukee -- The Blue Angels came up short against Alverno College with a final score of 6-2. The brutal temperature drop seemed to have no effect on the Inferno at the Nicolet tennis courts.

Mount Mary University couldn't quite get things going early enough in the dual match. The doubles matches were swept by the Inferno, lead by the efforts of the number one doubles team Asia Butler-Yeo (Fr./Whitefish Bay, Wis.) and Damanique Drake (Sr./Milwaukee, Wis.).  Ana Mercado (So./Grafton, Wis.) and Shuana Jacobs (Fr./East Troy, Wis.) would be the MMU number one doubles and would finish with a final of 1-8.

The singles matches would go 3-2 in favor of Alverno. The Blue Angels Nina Her (Sr./Brown Deer,Wis.) would defeat Drake (6-4, 6-1) in a battle for the first match victory of the night for her team. Krista Olson (Jr./Appleton, Wis.) chalked up the remaining victory for MMU against the Inferno's Devin Bach (Sr./Greenfield, Wis.) in a (6-4, 6-4) match. Andrea Monacelli (So./Sussex, Wis.) would duke it out with Libby Kent (Jr./Oak Creek,Wis.), but Monacelli couldn't hold on in a (4-6, 6-7, (6)) loss. Brooke Slamka (Jr./Racine, Wis.) would take Charmaine Clark (Sr./Milwaukee, Wis.) past dusk in (5-7, 7-6, DNF) in a draw that would be called for darkness.

The Blue Angels have to travel to Fond du Lac to play the Marian University Sabres. The contest against the Sabres on Sept. 13 will start at 2:00 pm at the Sports Core Complex in Kohler, Wis.
