Falcons Snap Blue Angels Winning Streak

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Mount Mary University lost their dual match against UW River Falls today. The final score was 6-3 in favor of the Falcons who now move to 3-3 on the year.

The Blue Angels (5-2) could not get things going quick enough today. The doubles teams for MMU all fell lost in their respective matches, giving UW River Falls an early lead on the dual match at 3-0. Ana Mercado (So./Grafton, Wis.) and Shauna Jacobs (Fr./East Troy, Wis.) lost their doubles match as a team, which ends the three contest winning streak. However, following the 8-5 loss to the number one doubles team for the Falcons, both Jacobs and Mercado won their respective singles flights.

Coach Tom Troast delighted with the resolve of his team, "Winning at one and two singles against a UW school says how far we've come as a program."

The slow doubles start marked the first match lost by Krista Olson (Jr./Appleton, Wis.) this season. Olson was not bothered much by the hiccup, she lost the first set 6-0, but came around big time to win 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 as she won in her singles match, and that makes it seven straight victories in singles.

Today's match marks the first loss on the road for the Blue Angels tennis team, they will have a chance to recover from "caravan lag" as they will travel down the road to play in Wauwatosa, Wis.

For the Blue Angels, it is rematch time against Alverno College, who will host the match at Hart Park. Alverno won the previous dual match 6-2 over the Blue Angels on Sept. 11th this season, however, most matches were close and not decided until very late in the match. The dual match is set for Tuesday Sept. 30th at 5:00 pm.
