Second Match In A Row Called For Bad Weather

Second Match In A Row Called For Bad Weather

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – A record tying season is still on hold for the Mount Mary University tennis team. Probably the most upsetting part is that MMU did not even get to finish the oppurtunity. In a contest that had momentum swinging towards the Blue Angels, Mother Nature appeared with enough rain to make playing conditions unsafe for the athletes. It is yet to be determined whether or not MSOE will be able to reschedule the dual match at Hart Park.

The Blue Angels are still (5-2) on the year, and have the best winning percentage of any MMU team since joining the NCAA. But that consoles the Blue Angels little, as they have had real solid opportunities to break the school's tennis team record for most wins in a regular season ripped away by bad weather hitting at the worst possible times.

This was the last home contest for Nina Her (Sr./Milwaukee, Wis.), and the only disappointment in the senior's match is that she did not get a chance to finish. Nina Her was teamed up with Andrea Monacelli (So./Sussex, Wis.) in the second flight doubles match, and had an impressive 7-1 lead as the rain became too cumbersome.

Her's serve was a huge part of not only the success in the match, but has been an enormous benefit throughout the senior's career. To this point in the season, Her is 2-0 in singles matches, but more importantly has been one of the most positive motivators on the team.

Third flight doubles was swaying in favor of MMU aswell, team Brooke Slamka (Jr./Racine, Wis.) and Sydney Dahlstrom had the score in favor of the Blue Angels 4-2.

Now the Blue Angels will head to Chicago, Ill. to play Roosevelt University. The drama is all boiling down to what could be the final opportunity to match last season's record setting team win total. Unless a reschedule date can be found for MSOE, the final regular season dual match for Mount Mary University is Sunday Oct. 5th at the Diversey Tennis Center starting at11:00 am.
