Blue Angels Lose Both In Madison

Blue Angels Lose Both In Madison

MADISON, Wis. – Another tough day for the Mount Mary University tennis team. The Blue Angels dropped both dual matches first against the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a final of 6-3, then to Edgewood College 8-1. The host Eagles move to 3-4 (2-0), the Raiders are now 1-5 (1-2), and the Blue Angels are now 0-5 (0-2) on their first season in the NACC as affiliate members.

A lot of good tennis today…" coach Callie Schroeder went on, "I saw everyone's strokes improve today by hitting against harder hitters and consistent players."

The Blue Angels won their first team points of the 2015-16 season and against some tough talent in the NACC. In game one, the Blue Angels won the third and fourth place singles as Krista Olson (Sr./Appleton, Wis.) and Sydney Dahlstrom (Sr./Marquette, Mich.) were the victors respectively.

The default points in the MSOE could have meant the difference for MMU as they gave up one team point in doubles and two in singles.

Coach Schroeder on game one, "Against MSOE we started with four players and three defaulted matches and still won three matches. With our full lineup we would have a pretty good shot at them."

The Eagles took control early on as well, sweeping the Blue Angels in doubles play. Krista Olson was the saving grace in the second dual match. Olson answered the call in both matches, but Eagles took control in nearly every set as they showed why they were the NACC's number one pick in their preseason poll.

Coach Schroeder recognized their play, "Edgewood is a strong team with a deep lineup. Good tennis to watch!"

The Blue Angels will have a few days to get healthy as their next dual match is on Fri. Sept. 11 beginning at 6:30 pm. The matchup will feature MMU and NACC opponent Lakeland College at Hart Park in Wauwatosa, Wis.
