Falcons Take 9-0 Victory

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The visiting Concordia Wisconsin Falcons defeated the Mount Mary University tennis team 9-0 today at Hart Park. That makes MMU 1-5 (1-4) on the season and CUW 3-1 (3-0).

This is the second dual match in a day that the Falcons swept as they had already defeated Lakeland earlier in the day. A very tough Falcon team started off with some big wins in doubles. Ana Mercado (Jr./Grafton, Wis.) and Marissa Rechlicz (So./West Allis, Wis.) lost the number one doubles 8-1 to the Falcons team of Ashley Solberg and Bailey Kelly.

The two and three doubles lost 8-0 each, leaving a tough task to come back once singles play began.

A few tough matches for MMU, but the Falcons kept the pressure on in singles as well. Mercado lost the number one singles in a 6-2, 6-3 match to Ashley Solberg. That would finish as one of the closest matches of the night for Blue Angels. The high powered Falcons team was picked to finish second in the NACC preseason poll, and they demonstrated why at Hart Park.

Brooke Slamka (Sr./Racine, Wis.) battled in the number two singles spot, but lost 6-2, 6-2 to Sabine Jacobsen.

As the Blue Angels continue their first season in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, the tough opponents will continue. The next dual match for MMU will come after a nice six day rest against NACC adversary Dominican 1-3 (1-2). The matchup is set for Fri. Sept. 18 beginning at 4:00 pm.
