Blue Angels Cancel Their NACC Tennis Schedule

Blue Angels Cancel Their NACC Tennis Schedule

MILWAUKEE – This morning, the Mount Mary Athletics Department announced the suspension of their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule for 2016 in the sport of women's tennis.

The announcement comes as a result of inadequate roster size to guarantee competitive completion of the conference schedule.

Mount Mary Director of Athletics Marc Heidorf said on the change, "While obviously not the way we wanted to see this play out, after exhausting various avenues to fortify the roster, and conference play set to begin this weekend, we arrived at the conclusion that this is the best course of action for both our program and the NACC."

"As is often the case in tough situations, there really is not just ONE THING that brought us to this point.  The key this week was to realize that a decision needed to be made and after speaking with Coach Neuwirth and Commissioner Larson, it was clear that this was a call that needed to be made."

In 2014, the Blue Angels Tennis Team finished their second straight six-win season. In that season MMU had victories over NACC teams such as Lakeland, Marian and Concordia Chicago. In their first season in the NACC, the Blue Angels went 1-9 with a win over Lakeland.

The Blue Angels will still look to play non-conference games in 2016, including a Sept. 19 dual match against Carthage. As the season progresses, the program will look to add more games with the possibility for more dual matches in the spring season.

"Women's Tennis at Mount Mary has had some great success; recently in fact." Heidorf added, "We will now go about the process of not only returning to that point, but also putting ourselves in a position once we get there of maintaining that success."
