MILWAUKEE – The Blue Angel volleyball squad has made great strides since the beginning of the season, but is still looking for that elusive first set victory of their 2013 campaign after dropping a Wednesday twin bill to Rockford University and Milwaukee School of Engineering.

Originally scheduled as a 6 p.m. single-header against Rockford, Mount Mary accepted an offer to add another match on the night. Athletic personnel from MSOE approached head coach Kelsey Peterson and Director of Athletics Marc Heidorf as a previously scheduled match against Lawrence fell through. Just two days later, Mount Mary was hosting a double-header.

Spirits were high in the first match against the Regents, as Mount Mary put forth one of its best offensive matches of the season. However, a handful of long Rockford service runs proved the difference through much of the match, as despite lopsided set scores—25-15, 25-14, 25-8—the teams shared several long volleys.

Mount Mary tallied a season-high 21 kills in the first match, eight coming from junior outside Sarah Wishau (Oak Creek, Wis.). Junior right side Katie Edwards (Mackinaw, Ill.) had her best hitting match of the season, tallying five kills and only one error against the Regents. Three Blue Angels tallied double-digit digs as well, with freshman outside Andrea Roell (Kingsford, Mich.), freshman setter Phoenix Hulsey (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and Wishau recorded 13, 12 and 10 digs respectively.

Seemingly, a hard-fought Rockford match caught up with Mount Mary as they gave up a 9-0 run to start the first set against MSOE. Points-wise, the Blue Angels were never really close to the Raiders but the host team did have some great digging rallies in the final sweep of the night.

Mount Mary will next take to the road for a triangular at North Central University in Minneapolis, Minn. Game times for Saturday's slate that also features Crown College, is 2 pm against the Storm and 4 pm against the host Rams.
