MILWAUKEE -- The Mount Mary University volleyball team lost 3-0 to visiting Maranatha Baptist University tonight at the Bloechl Center. The Blue Angels are now 4-15 on the 2016 season with three games left to go in the team's final two weeks of regular season.
A very accurate night for the second place Association of Division III Independents Sabercats. MBU finished the entire match with a combined seven team errors. Their high hitting percentage led to the 25-9, 25-9, 25-19 win, but the Blue Angels had a gallant push in the third and final frame.
The Sabercats jumped ahead to the early lead at 6-4 in the first set, then got rolling going on an 8-2 run. The 11 team kills, two team errors led to a big set for the Sabercats while their counterpart finished with three kills on eight team errors.
MBU continued the attack through to the third set when the Blue Angels made push. Down 12-5, the Blue Angels went on an 8-5 run. The Blue Angels continued to chip away, but would not get any closer than four in the final frame. The difference may have been the seven team kills, on seven errors for MMU in their final and most efficient set of the evening.
Alison Renz led the night with 11 kills, three errors on 22 total attacks to help push her AD3I leading hitting percentage even higher.
Blue Angel Lauren Harris (So./Sheridan, Ill.) led the offensive attack for the Blue Angels with six kills, two errors on 18 total attacks for a .22 hitting percentage. Teammate Marissa Tun (Jr./Greenfield, Wis.) again led MMU with 20 digs and 10 assists.
The Blue Angels will get ready for their next match set for Fri. Oct. 21. MMU will face off against Silver Lake College for the third time this season. In the previous two matches, the Blue Angels took home the respective victories. First serve is scheduled for 5:00 pm at the University of Wisconsin Manitowoc Gymnasium.
