HANCOCK, Mich. – The Mount Mary University volleyball team began their first day of the SISU Classic today. The Grace Christian University Tigers (7-8) took the first match of the classic against the Blue Angels 3-1.

MMU opened up the tournament with their most accurate set of the night. MMU blasted 11 team kills on their 46 total attacks. Although the Blue Angels forced the opposition into seven team errors, the Tigers were able to hold on to their early lead for a 25-21 set-win.

GCU took the second set of the match 25-15. The Tigers hit 10 kills on 31 attacks. The Blue Angels forced the opposition into six errors while landing five team kills.

The Blue Angels came back in the third set of the match with their hardest hitting frame of the evening. MMU landed a match high 13 kills after falling behind by seven points early in the set. Late in the set, the Blue Angels surged with a 10-1. Jacklyn Mozdzen helped pilot that run with a service ace. That run for the Blue Angels also led to MMU taking the set 25-22.

In the fourth set of the evening, the Blue Angels took the early 13-7 lead. A 9-3 run by the Tigers turned the tables for GCU and gave them the late lead. The two teams continued to trade points, but the Tigers edged out the set 25-23 to take the match-victory as well.

Leading the offensive attack for the Blue Angels was Adrianna Nester (Sr./Anaheim, Calif.). Nester landed 18 kills on a team high 74 total attacks. Teammate Brianna Ecker (Fr./Fond du Lac, Wis.) led the team with 27 assists and three service aces.

Tomorrow the Blue Angels will return to action at the SISU Classic with a pair of games beginning at 12:00 pm CDT. MMU will first play Buena Vista, then the Blue Angels will close out the tournament against host Finlandia University at 2:00 pm.
