Milwaukee, WI- The Mount Mary volleyball team headed into day two of the 2022 MMU Fall invite hoping to snap a three-match winless streak. That was not in the cards on Saturday however, as the Blue Angels fell to two tough opponents in Alma College and Maranatha Baptist University.
In the first match of the day, the Scots of Alma College provided the competition for the Blue Angels. Mount Mary hung very tough in the second and third sets, but could not muster any set wins and fell 3-0 in the match.
Alma continued their momentum from a Friday evening victory and took set one by a decisive 25-15 score. The next two sets were very competitive but MMU came out on the short side of both. The Scots took set two 25-23 and set three 25-22.
Brianna Ecker tallied 11 kills and Kaitlyn Powers 8. Emma White and Caitlyn Krell provided 12 assists each. Ava Ramos paced MMU with 16 digs.
The second match of the day saw Mount Mary take on a most familiar opponent. Saturday's 2 pm tilt was the fourth meeting of the season between MMU and the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist.
The Sabercats looked like the fresh team in their first match of the day, taking set one by a 25-16 score. Set two was unfortunately similar, with an identical score, 25-16, to give the Sabercats a two-set lead.
The Blue Angels came to life in set number three. Mount Mary won the set in decisive fashion, 25-14.
MMU could not sustain the momentum into set number four. Maranatha regained their form from the first two sets, and the Sabercats put the match away with a 25-18 win.
Ecker and Powers again fronted the attack at the net with 13 kills each. Emma White provided an impressive 27 assists.
Mount Mary (8-17) will be back in action on Tuesday, October 25th. The Blue Angels will have the chance to avenge another defeat from earlier in the season when they travel to Beloit College.
