Ripon, WI- The Mount Mary volleyball team headed into two Saturday matches at Ripon College hoping to grab their first victory of the early season. It was not in the cards however, as the Blue Angels fell to Illinois Tech and Martin Luther College.
After dropping the first two sets to Illinois Tech in the day's first match, it looked as though things may turn for MMU. The Blue Angels held a lead in set three as deep as 17-14, but Illinois Tech took control for the set win and the sweep. Final scores being 25-16, 25-18, and 25-19.
In the match against Tech, Abigail Manthey and Rosalinda Palacios each recorded five kills, while Manthey also was the squad leader in digs with eleven. Anastasia Paulino was the leader in assists for the second straight match, as she recorded eight.
Match two on Saturday saw the Blue Angels take on Martin Luther College from New Ulm, Minnesota. Perhaps fatigue set in for the Blue Angels as MLC controlled the play. Taking the match by scores of 25-9, 25-11, and 25-9.
Statistically, Abigail Manthey had three kills to lead MMU. Manthey also provided six digs and Anastasia Paulino added four assists to lead Mount Mary.
The Blue Angels (0-4) will next be in action at home in the annual Blue Angel Bash. The Multi-team and multi-court event will occur at the Bloechl Center on September 6th and 7th.
