Milwaukee, WI- Thursday evening saw the Mount Mary Blue Angel Volleyball team host the Cardinals of Andrews University at the Bloechl Center. It would be a celebratory occasion as Mount Mary claimed their first win of the season in a four-set triumph.
Game one saw the Cardinals take control early and hold off a late Mount Mary comeback attempt. Andrews took set one by a 25-18 score.
The second set belonged to the Blue Angels, MMU took the second set by a final score of 25-17. MMU continued the momentum and rolled through set three by a score of 25-18.
The fourth set provided the most excitement of the match. And thankfully it provided a set win and a match win for MMU. The 26-24 set saw the score ebb and flow, but finally Mount Mary prevailed and clinched their first win of the season. Also marking the first win at MMU for Blue Angel Head Coach Maida Wolff.
Emma White played a remarkable game for the Blue Angels, recording 21 kills, 21 assists and eight digs.
Abigail Manthey made a welcome return to the lineup for MMU. Manthey led the Blue Angel defense with 22 digs. Anastasia Paulino had a great night setting as well, with 19 assists in the victory.
Mount Mary (1-9) will have six days off before they look to claim a second straight win. On Wednesday, September 18th, the Blue Angels will head to Chicago to take on the Archers of the Moody Bible Institute.
