Appleton, WI- The Mount Mary Volleyball team was riding a two-game winning streak as they headed to Lawrence University on Friday for two matches. The Blue Angels were not able to grab another victory unfortunately, as they dropped matches to the host Vikings and Rockford University.
In the first match of the day, MMU faced Lawrence for a second time this season. The Blue Angels dropped a match to the Vikings on September 7th and were unable to even the season series in the match on Friday. Lawrence took the match by scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-15. Abigail Manthey recorded 7 digs for MMU in the match.
In the second match of the day, the Blue Angels took on the Regents of Rockford University. Rockford took a lopsided first set, but Mount Mary looked to rebound in the second set. MMU led for much of set 2 but fell just short by a score of 25-23.
Set three went the way of the Regents as well, they won the set by a score of 25-17 to end the match.
Latanisha Allen recorded eight kills against Rockford to lead MMU. Emma White had an impressive 14 assists and Abigail Manthey had a strong defensive match with 18 digs.
Next up for the Blue Angel volleyball team is another two match day. On Saturday, September 28th, Mount Mary (2-11) will play two matches at Milwaukee School of Engineering. MMU will face Maranatha Baptist at 5 pm followed by a match against the host Red Raiders at 7 pm. All coverage of MMU volleyball can be found on www.mtmaryathletics.com
