HAMMOND, Ind. – The Mount Mary University softball team lost to host Purdue-Calumet University today at Fifth Third Bank Softball Field 16-0. The loss makes the Blue Angels 2-9 on the year, while moving the Peregrines to 12-15.

For the first time this season, the Blue Angels were held off the bases for the entire five innings. Retiring all 15 faced, PCU's pitchers combined for the shutout. With the support of her offense and the 13 earned runs produced by the Peregrines, the game ended just in time for the impending weather.

PCU started the first inning getting two runners on via walk, then followed up with Katlin Barajas going deep scoring three runs with one swing of the bat. Following that up with a four hit, four run second inning, the Peregrines quickly separated the gap making it 7-0.

After PCU added six in the third, Head Softball Coach Tim Edwards decided to take Nikki Festge (Sr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) out of the circle and throw sophomore Ashley Contreras (College Station, Texas) for the remainder of the game.

Festge finished with 3.0 innings pitched, giving up 10 hits, 13 runs, 10 earned runs, walking four and striking out three. Teammate Contreras finished with 2.0 innings pitched with giving up two hits, three earned runs, walking three and striking out one.

As the first game concluded, the incoming weather system prompted event officials to cancel the second game in interest for players' safety. The second game will not be rescheduled.

Now the Blue Angels will prepare for the University of Chicago softball team who was just added to the schedule. The doubleheader games are set for 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm on Mon. Apr. 11 at the Amos Alonzo Field in Chicago, Ill.
