Mount Mary vs University of Chicago

Game Time: Mon. Apr. 11, 2016 3:30 pm & 5:30 pm
Place: Amos Alonzo Stagg Field
NCAA Series: First meeting.

The Blue Angels are heading to Chicago to face the Maroons from the University of Chicago. 11-5 heading into today's games, the Maroons have split their last six contests against some stiff competition including University of Wisconsin Whitewater and Lake Forrest College.

Offensively, the Maroons are very productive. In 15 games this season, the team's batting average is at .329. Eight Maroon batters are hitting over .300, seven of those with more than 2.5 at-bats per team game.

Kathleen Kohm leads the offense with a .486 batting average, with seven doubles and 13 RBIs. Teammate Carly Schulz ties Kohm with a team leading 18 hits, while also adding three doubles, two triples, one homerun and nine RBIs.

Strong in the circle as well, the Maroons are sporting a 2.99 team ERA with a relatively even four-pitcher rotation. While Molly Moran is responsible for 36.1 innings pitched and a team high 2.89 ERA, fellow Maroon Jordan Pool has only one less strikeout (32) than leader Moran in just 27.1 innings.

The Blue Angels just shook off a 10 day layover after Mother Nature postponed or cancelled six scheduled games. Before the delay, the Blue Angels bats were getting hot scoring a season high 5 runs against Midwest Conference powerhouse Grinnell College.

A breakout game for freshman Madison Ledda (Tracy, Calif.) who went 3-of-3 at the plate with an RBI. Fellow rookie Peyton Davis (Fr./Tracy, Calif.) continued to take charge in her new role behind the dish, while adding a 1-of-3 day with a run scored. Payton Hintz (So./Almond, Wis.) added to the offense with her first homerun of the season.

The Blue Angels pitching staff has a team ERA of 8.21, slightly over their ERA from last season. As MMU continues their tough schedule, the Blue Angels 5.18 strikeouts per game at the halfway mark is just behind the astonishing 6.45 Nikki Festge (Sr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and Ashley Contreras (So./College Station, Texas) combined for in 2015.
