Falcons Offense Floods

MEQUON, Wis. – The Mount Mary University softball team dropped both games in their doubleheader against host Concordia University Wisconsin (11-5). The 3-game skid moves the Blue Angels to 3-11 on the season.

In game one, the Falcons attacked quickly in their half of the first inning. Three straight singles, a walk/RBI, then the Falcons cleared the bases when Carly Sobrilsky went deep with the early grand slam. CUW added two more runs to finish the first frame ahead 7-0.

The Falcons added two more runs in the second inning and four more runs in the fourth essentially ending the game on the 8-run rule.

MMU received a number of scoring opportunities in game one, leaving seven runners on the bases and getting five hits total. Sidnee Turnage (Fr./Hesperia, Calif.) led the offensive charge going 2-of-3 from the plate. Teammate Megan Shelley (Fr./Centralia, Wash.) had the one extra base hit for the Blue Angels in game one.

Hannah Harnsberger (Fr./Hillsboro, Ore.) labored through 3.1 innings surrendering 12 hits, 12 earned runs and struck out one. Stephanie Norman (Fr./Noblesville, Ind.) came in relief to close out the fourth, but Harnsberger was dealt the loss making her 2-5 on the season.

After shuffling the lineup a bit in game two, Mount Mary Head Softball Coach Tim Edwards was able to generate an early lead. Moving Amelia Flint (Jr./Whitefish Bay, Wis.), a .324-hitter, from the nine spot in game one, and most games this season, to the two spot in the second game got the Blue Angels a big spark.

Flint laced a homerun with one out in the top of inning number one to give the Blue Angels the early lead. The Blue Angels enjoyed that lead for the next three innings.

In the bottom of the third, the Falcons got a leadoff double followed by four straight walks by starter Adrianna Nester (Fr./Anaheim, Calif.). With two runs scoring via walk, the Blue Angels went to Stephanie Norman to close out the inning. The Falcons took advantage of the bases loaded scoring in the next at bat on a wild pitch, then Sobrilsky launched her second homerun of the day, this time only a 3-run jack after the wild pitch scored that fourth RBI making it 6-0.

CUW added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning again pushing the score over the 8-run threshold.

Flint led the Blue Angels offense going 2-of-2 at the plate with a homerun and an RBI. Teammate Adrianna Nester was given the loss as she moves to 1-5 on the season.

After today's doubleheader the Blue Angels will get ready to go to the Windy City to play North Park (1-15). MMU will travel down to Chicago on Fri. Mar. 31 for their games against the Vikings, game one begins at 3:00 pm. Follow mtmaryathletics.com for updates, news and box scores.
