Blue Angels Fall In Home Opener

MILWAUKEE -- During the home opener tonight, Mount Mary University (0-3) was defeated by Clarke University 89-26. The win for the Crusaders snaps a two game losing streak as they move their season record to 5-4.

In the first ever meeting since MMU joined NCAA in 2009 between the two schools, Clarke University came out firing. The offensive strike went to 16-1 before the Blue Angels hit their first field goal of the night. Chrisandra Freeman knocked down the bucket at the 13:20 mark in the first half.

The first half ended 45-9, where the Crusaders hit 21-40 field goals, and only turned the ball over six times. Offensively, the Blue Angels 4-24 from the floor, and only had three players with points going into the locker room. The bright spot was on the boards, where Taylor Baumgart (So./Burlington, Wis.) pulled in six boards in the first half of play.

In the second half, much like in the game against Alverno College, the Blue Angels were determined to attack the hoop. MMU went to the line 11 times in the second half, as they hit eight of their freebies.

Leading the way on offense, Jasmine Meyer (Fr./Lansing, Kan.) had seven points along with Chrisandra Freeman (Fr./Cedar Rapids, Iowa). Meyer also pulled in six rebounds for the Blue Angels.

The CU offense was spread across most of the roster, leading the way Breland Prochaska and Lexi Needham both had 12 points to finish the day. Stephanie Aasen was the force to be reckoned with on the glass as she pulled 12 rebounds on her own, and was just two points away from a double-double.

Next up on the docket for MMU is the Marian University Sabres. The Blue Angels will head up to Fond du Lac, Wis. on Saturday Nov. 22nd, with tipoff set for 2:00 pm.
