Lumberjills Over Blue Angels

Lumberjills Over Blue Angels

ASHLAND, Wis. -- Mount Mary University lost to Northland College 66-47 today at the Kendrigan Gymnasium. The game in Ashland, Wis. gives the Lumberjills a 2-6 record, and moves MMU to 1-9 for the 2015 season.

After a tough match yesterday against Finlandia University, the Blue Angels knew they would be awaiting another challenging game for this season's rematch against Northland College. Marissa Rechlicz (Fr./West Allis, Wis.) went down late in Saturday's game while trying to draw a charge, much to the chagrin of the Blue Angels, the guard was not able to play against Northland today.

The holes in the lineup shined through as the Blue Angels played even with the Lumberjills except for a 10 minute gap in the first half. It was 13-10 for NC with nine minutes left to go in the first, which is where the Lumberjills went on a 25-8 run to finish the half.

The second half saw more of what the Blue Angels can do. MMU went point for point outscoring their opponent 29-28 in the second half. Jasmine Meyer (Fr./Lansing, Kan.) led the charge in the second half with 12 points, and would finish with a team high of 15.

In a very gutsy performance, Taylor Baumgart (So./Burlington, Wis.) went the full 40 minutes with the short bench. Baumgart took care of the ball in the second half, and scored all of her nine points as her fatigue was at its worst.

Coach Marc Heidorf, "Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) played a complete game. She is beginning to stand out as someone that can be relied upon night in and night out for us."

Onan finished with a full stat-line, seven points, nine rebounds, three assists, four steals, and officially two blocks.

Following the weekend doubleheader, the Blue Angels return to the Bloechl Center for a Tuesday evening game. The game against Girnnell College is set for Jan. 6th at 5:00 pm.
