MMU Ready For Pioneers

MMU Ready For Pioneers

The Blue Angels are home and prepared to host the Grinnell College Pioneers tomorrow evening. Mount Mary University is 1-9 mid way through, and the Pioneers are off to a 4-6 record for the 2014-15 season. The two teams will clash at 5:00 pm Tuesday Jan. 6th at the Bloechl Center.

A good finish to the 2014 portion of the season, the Blue Angels are still searching for the groove they were in before the first semester broke. In the two games since, MMU has seen stretches where the team was playing well executed team ball on both sides. Freshmen like Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) and Chrisandra Freeman (Fr./Cedar Rapids, Iowa) have been picking up quickly to NCAA basketball.

Onan, is fresh off a pair of solid games coming off the break. Most importantly, Onan is taking control in all aspects in the game. Most recently Onan finished with seven points, nine rebounds, three assists, four steals, and officially two blocks. The rookie is averaging 8.2 points per game, which is third on the team, and Onan is at 6.1 rebounds per game, second on MMU.

Along with Onan, Freeman has been playing above and beyond her "freshman" status. Leading the team with 11.7 ppg and 6.9 rbg, Freeman has been increasing her level of play with each game.

Playing well for the Pioneers, Alissa Hirsh (Jr./Skokie, Ill.) has been fueling the team's offense averaging a team leading 19.7 ppg and 3.1 assists per game, and also pulling down 6.2 rpg. Watch out for the team's three-point threat Sophia Gatton (So./Chicago, Ill.) who is averaging 39 percent from downtown and averaging 11.2 ppg.

After Tuesday's game, MMU will have a week to get ready for their next game against the Illinois Institute of Technology. The contest against Scarlet Hawks is set for Tuesday Jan. 13th at 7:00 pm in Chicago, Ill. at the Keating Sports Center.
