Tigers Three Ball Too Much

Tigers Three Ball Too Much

MILWAUKEE – In a hard fought match, the Blue Angels lost to Grace Bible College 74-61. While Mount Mary University drops to 2-11, the bright spot was the stellar games by the underclassmen for the Blue Angels.

As acting head coach Philip Van Ermen took the helm in place for coach Marc Heidorf who was absent due to his Athletic Director responsibilities, the Blue Angels adjusted. A dead even contest to begin, it seemed the Blue Angels were ready from the opening tip. Back and forth until the eight minute mark in the first half. With the game at 25-25, the Tigers went on a 19-3 run to end the half.

The Blue Angels could not get out in time to cover the active 3-point assault from GBC. The Tigers shot 36 3-pointers in the game, and landed 14. The Blue Angels did their best to cut into the lead, but it seemed as if every time the Blue Angels could get close, the Tigers would hit a 3-pointer. The smallest lead being seven for the Tigers in the second half.

Another day of big performances from the Blue Angels youth. Two freshmen seem to be picking up that NCAA ball quickly. Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) again filled out her stat sheet as she led the Blue Angels in scoring with 15 points and also tacked on eight rebounds, four assists, a steal and two blocks. Chrisandra Freeman (Fr./Cedar Rapids, Iowa) recorded her third double-double of the season, and her second in as many games. Freeman finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds for her Blue Angels.

An injury report, as Erin Russell (Fr./ New Roads, La.) has been a productive member since getting healthy and joining the lineup in January, Russell went down after a collision during a loose ball in the late second half of tonight's game. Russell did not return the game and is uncertain whether she will be available for Tuesday's game.

Following this tonight's game, Mount Mary will play host to the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats this Tuesday Jan. 20th at 7:00 pm.
