Blue Angels Look Ahead For Lakers

In another midseason test, the Blue Angels are heading north to Manitowoc, Wis. to face off against Silver Lake College. The game is set for 7:00 pm tomorrow night on the campus of UW Manitowoc.

The Blue Angels (3-11) are coming off of a tough win over Maranatha Baptist University, a game in which the young team kept a lead throughout, and spread the ball across the lineup. MMU, while filled with underclassmen, has shown multiple times this season that the team can play with nearly any team in D-III at least for stretches. The issue at times has been longevity and consistently, but with players like Chrisandra Freeman (Fr./Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) and Jasmine Meyer (Fr./Lansing, Kan.) playing beyond their years, the success looks to continue.

Recurrently, Freeman has led the Blue Angels in scoring night after night. Averaging 13.4 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game, Freeman not only leads the team in those categories, but has recorded three double-doubles this season.

Onan has been as impressive, incrementally improving her play with each collegiate battle. When Onan is not scoring big for her team (still second on the team averaging 8.9 ppg), she is taking care of business on the glass and on the defensive end as well. Last contest against MBU, Onan scored only four, but called upon her Association of Division III Independents Goalkeeper of the year as she had a season high four blocks. Onan is now fourth in AD3I in blocks with 19.

Coming into the game on Thursday, the Lakers have won three of their last four including a victory over Moody Bible Institute. MBI beat the Blue Angels earlier this season 77-42. It will be a tough test for the Blue Angels, but the team has been playing better as a unit in the second half of the season.

After tomorrow's game, the Blue Angels will prepare for MacMurray College. MMU will host Highlanders Tuesday Jan. 27th at 6:00 pm.
