On The Road Again

On The Road Again

In their final road trip of the 2014-15 season, Mount Mary University will head to Wyoming, Mich. to play in the Grace Bible Classic this Friday and Saturday. The Blue Angels will first play host Grace Bible College Feb. 6th at 6:00 pm CST, then Kuyper College will be slated for Feb. 7th at 12:00 pm CST.

Earlier in the year, the Blue Angels lost in a very competitive match-up with Grace Bible College. The separation between the teams in the first game was the three-point attack the Tigers put on. Relentless from beyond the arc, Grace Bible hit 14 three-pointers, in contrast, MMU only took 12 in the entire game. The Tigers also kept great care of the ball, only giving up 9 turnovers in the entire 40 minutes. The 74-61 final, did not reflect how close the two teams played.

Since then, the Blue Angels have gone 2-2, and have seen a rise in the production across the roster. Rookie Chrisandra Freeman (Fr./Cedar Rapids, Iowa) has been a real boost for MMU this season. Freeman has been getting notice in the Association of Division III Independents, as she is in the top ten in points per game (13.2), rebounds per game (7.9) and assists per game (2.1).

Along with her, Taylor Baumgart (So./Burlington, Wis.) has been working on her game, and it has showed. Cutting down on her turnovers, and giving her field goal percentage a mighty bump in the month of January, has been a big part of the recent success of the Blue Angels.

Day two of the Grace Bible Classic will show the Blue Angels face Kuyper College for the first time since December of 2011. Since MMU joined the NCAA, the Blue Angels have won two out of the three games between the schools. Both teams have completely new rosters and are under different coaching regimes.

The Cougars are 3-10 on the season. The only common opponents this season have been Grace Bible, where Kuyper lost 91-41, and Silver Lake College, where the Lakers won both by an average of 38 points. The last game the Cougars played was a 14 point loss to Lincoln Christian College.

Only time will tell how the Cougars and Blue Angels will match-up. The Blue Angels might be playing their best ball here late in the season. MMU is 2-2 in their last for games, while Kuyper is 1-3 in the same time.

Following the last road trip of the season, the Blue Angels will return home to get ready for Lincoln Christian. The game will be at the Bloechl Center Feb. 9th at 6:00 pm.
