Red Lions Coming To Bloechl

Red Lions Coming To Bloechl

With two weeks left to go in the 2014-15 basketball season, Mount Mary University is ready to being their final homestand this Monday. Lincoln Christian University will be first up on the docket on Feb. 9th at 6:00 pm in the Bloechl Center.

The Blue Angels are coming off a gutsy win that saw 11 lead changes. The slug fest ended when MMU refused to miss a shot in the second half and held their opponent without a bucket for the last 6:22. Now the Blue Angels will try to carry that momentum over to Lincoln Christian.

All-time, MMU is 6-0 over the Red Lions. Although both teams are sporting completely new rosters, the Blue Angels have consistently been adding NCAA caliber recruits to their roster. The rookie class has provided a big lift coming in the second half of this season, while last year's addition of Taylor Baumgart (So./Burlington, Wis.) and Shandrieka Richardson (Jr./Atlanta, Ga.) have been picking up their games as well.

The trio of Jasmine Meyer (Fr./Lansing, Kan.), Becky Onan (Fr./Grafton, Wis.) and Chrisandra Freeman (Fr./Cedar Rapids, Iowa) have been acclimating to collegiate ball nicely. The group is responsible for over half the teams scoring, and 66 percent of the rebounds for MMU. A foundation the team is trying to build on, and they are not quite done yet this year. At 5-14, the Blue Angels have a shot at nine wins, which would be a record for the school since joining NCAA DIII.

Lincoln Christian (12-5) has been building their program since the last time the teams met in 2012. In the meantime, the Red Lions have posted back-to-back winning season, and this season LCU is 6-1 against common opponents to MMU; the Blue Angels are 5-3.

Following the Red Lions, MMU will look to host their remaining three home games. First on that list, a rematch with Silver Lake College. The Lakers are coming to town, Wednesday Feb. 11th at 6:00 pm.
