Freeman Brings Home Honors

MILWAUKEE – In the final month of the women's basketball regular season, Mount Mary University's Chrisandra Freeman (Fr./Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was named the Association of Division III Independents February Student-Athlete of the Month.

Along with the freshman's already impressive year, she now is the first women's basketball player at MMU to be named SAOM in the AD3I.

Freeman had a stand out February to go along with an already great year. The rookie averaged 17.0 points per game, 8.9 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game and 1.4 steals per game in the last month of the season.

It has been an ever impressive year for the Blue Angels newcomer, placing in the top 15 in AD3I in four major categories this season; 14.1 ppg (fifth), 7.8 rpg (seventh), 2.1 apg (11th) and 1.3 spg (12th).

In the month of February, Freeman had two double-doubles with both of them resulting in Blue Angels victories. The Blue Angel finished with five double-doubles on the season, and was one of the featured scorers night in and night out for MMU.

Now that the rookie title can be shed, the future looks mighty bright for Freeman and the Blue Angels basketball team. This team is jam packed with youth, and that youth now has a season under their belts. After turning a 1-19 record in 2013-14, to 5-18 in 2014-15, MMU is looking to keep hungry and continue the uphill climb next season.

MMU head basketball coach Marc Heidorf understands the importance of the late season award, "the standing goal every year is for us to be playing our best basketball in February."

Much to the pleasure of her coach, Freeman played some of her best games in February. And as Freeman had been playing her heart out all season, she ends the campaign with a well-deserved award. Congratulations Chrisandra Freeman!
