Storm Stop Blue Angels

Storm Stop Blue Angels

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. -- The Mount Mary University soccer team lost their final game of the 2016 season to host Crown College 4-1. The loss moves the Blue Angels to 8-7 which ties the school's wins record since becoming an NCAA institution.

"Soccer can be a brutal game we out played Crown for 80 of the 90 minutes of the game but failed to get a result." Mount Mary Head Soccer Coach Jon Gulrajani added, "Credit Crown, they pressured really well and finished their chances in the first nine minutes."

The Storm came out applying as much pressure as they could on the MMU defense. Relentless on the attack, Crown had a 3-0 lead 8:43 into the game. The first goal coming two minutes into the game from Anna Kragt. Two minutes later, Kately Carter scored her first of three goals in the game.

Coach Gulrajani, "They made us chase the game today. We did everything well we created chances, we connected passes better than we had all year, we just fell short in the final third. [sic] Want to thank the seniors Zecillia [Alamillo-Roman] and Logan [Ormeroid] they really finished their careers on a high note and really helped the program forward."

Senior Logan Ormeroid (Sr/New Berlin, Wis.) scored the final goal of the season for the Blue Angels and the final goal of her collegiate career 25 minutes into the second half. That was the closest the Blue Angels could make the point differential as the Storm knocked in their fourth and final goal of the game making it 4-1.

"It's tough today, but one game doesn't define a season." Coach Gulrajani clarified, "We accomplished things never done before and this group really set a new standard at Mount Mary."

That new standard is set by the second ever winning season in MMU soccer history, (8-7). The 6-5 record against NCAA institutions is also the new benchmark for all future Blue Angels teams.

The Blue Angels now have the offseason to prepare for their next step. While they condition and prepare for the 2017-18 season, stay tuned to mtmaryathetlics.com for all the news on Association of Division III Independents awards and honors for the Blue Angels performance in 2016.
