Sabercats Add To Win Streak

Sabercats Add To Win Streak

WATERTOWN, Wis. – As the 2015 regular season comes closer to its conclusion, the Mount Mary University volleyball team lost to host Maranatha Baptist 3-0. The win moves the Sabercats streak to 10 straight matches and a 16-5 record on the year. MMU drops to 2-14 on the season.

Once the Sabercats took a 2-1 lead in the first set, the team did not look back as they never trailed the whole match following that. Hitting at a solid .348 percentage, and committing just 3 team attack errors in the first set led to Maranatha taking the early lead 25-13.

In the second set, the Sabercats continued to attack accurately with a .464 hitting percentage against MMU. With 15 team kills in 28 total attacks, Maranatha took the set convincingly 25-8.

The Blue Angels fought back in the third, but a five point streak followed by an eight point streak ended the rally and gave the Sabercats the final set 25-13. That makes 29 straight winning sets for Maranatha.

Alison Renz led the game with 10 kills, perhaps more impressive would be the zero errors in her 14 attacks. Her teammate Julia Gunst followed suit committing no errors, and also adding 21 assists to the mix.

Leading the Blue Angels offense was Julia Terasa (Jr./Waukesha, Wis.) with 12 assists, eight digs, and no errors. Outside hitter Lauren Harris (Fr./Sheridan, Ill.) helped out the offensive cause with a team leading six kills and was second with a .462 hitting percentage.

After tonight's match, the Blue Angels will then get ready to host their final triangular of the season. The Mount Mary Triangular will feature the Blue Angels, Finlandia and Grace Bible. The matches begin at 4:00 pm on Fri. Oct. 23 at the Bloechl Center.
