Blue Angels Finish Sixth

Blue Angels Finish Sixth

WATERTOWN, Wis. – Today at the Wisconsin Private College Championships, the Mount Mary University cross country team finished sixth out of the 12 teams competing. The high finish marks the second time in school history that two runners finished in the top ten in a race. Edgewood won the team scoring at the WPCC, while Edgewood Eagle Alyse Peters took home first place with a 23:56.9 time on the six-kilometer track.

Danielle Sherrer ('15), Natalie Guyette ('16) and Jori Galles (Sr./Waukesha, Wis.) finished in tenth, fifth and third respectively in the 2015 MBU Invite. That performance gave the Blue Angels their best finish in school history at second. Today the Blue Angels had two of the highest finishes combined with the large pool size for runners.

For the sixth straight race this season, the tandem of Jori Galles and Christina Ishaq (Jr./Milwaukee, Wis.) finished in front of the Blue Angels pack. Galles has continually finished in the top 15 despite the race's pool size and today was no different. This week, the senior was able to finish with a final time of 24:56.9 for third place out of the 92 official runners. Tied for her best finish in her collegiate career, Galles still has two races left this season to continue her legacy.

Ishaq was right behind teammate Galles with an impressive 25:12.3 finishing time. Good enough for sixth place officially, this marks the best overall placement for the junior in her NCAA career. Ishaq has consistently been in the top third and fourth of each race this season and is rewarded this week with a top ten finish.

Daniela Torres (So./ West Allis, Wis.) helped the Blue Angels in their sixth place finish with a 30:45.0 finishing time and a 54th overall finish. The 47th team placing for Torres was a big boost to the overall scoring.

Strides behind Torres, Mary Jenks (So./Wild Rose, Wis.) crossed the finish line at 32:10.9. Jenks has continued to steady the Blue Angels pack her efforts paid off this week with a 62nd place finish, 55th in team scoring.

Rounding out the team scoring, Sarah Anklam (Jr./St Marys, Ga.) placed 60th in 32:35.7. Finishing virtually right next to each other Manami Komatsu (Fr./Tokyo, Japan) gave MMU a 32:41.9 finish and a 61 team finish. Teammate Carlie O'Donnell (Jr./Sharon, Wis.) placed 62nd in team scoring with her 32:50.6 final.

Ashley Tannert (Jr./New Berlin, Wis.) finished things for MMU with a 38:13.8 time on the grueling and muddy six-kilometer track.

Following today's race, the Blue Angels will have two weeks to prepare for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships. The NACC Championships will be held on the familiar campus of Concordia University Wisconsin on Sat. Oct. 28. For final times and updates, check mtmaryathletics.com.
